The Making Place regularly runs one-off classes and workshops to allow you to try new crafts, try out a new tool or have a play with some new materials.
These 1-to-1 sessions must be booked in advance, so please get in touch.
SEWING MACHINE BASICS
Do you have a sewing machine at home that you have hidden away?
Are you scared to use sewing machines because you don't know how?
Would you like to learn how to thread a machine, perform basic tasks and create new things?
Come to The Making Place for an informal, friendly 1-to-1 session on how to use a sewing machine.
We will go through:
> machine basics - what's what
> threading your machine - how to get it to work
> stitches - for different uses
> accessories - needles, presser feet, threads
Then you will create a small item, such as a small pouch, to take home and show everyone how excellent you are! You do not need to own or bring a sewing machine as we do have some for you to use. However, you are welcome to bring along your machine so you can familiarise yourself with it.
If you have some fabric such as an old shirt or bedsheet, you are welcome to bring it along to upcycle!
These 2-hour sessions are available during our regular open hours and outside of these hours by arrangement. Please contact us for more details, availability information and check our store to make a booking.
